Leonidas Donskis

(b. 1962 in Klaipeda) - Lithuanian philosopher, essayist, social sciences and doctor of philosophy, professor at the Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas. Between 2009-2014, he was a member of the European Parliament from the Liberal Movement of the Republic of Lithuania.

Author of the collection of essays Power, imagination and memory (KEW 2015), which analyzes the instances of political oppression present in dramas and sonnets of Shakespeare, comedies by Macchiavelli, the novels of Daniel Defoe and George Orwell. This year a volume of his conversations with Tomas Venclova titled In search of optimism in an age of pessimism. Eastern Europe - premonitions and predictions will be published.
