Maciej Świerkocki

translator of English-language literature, writer, screenwriter, literary critic. Doctor in humanities, graduate of English Studies and Philosophy on the University of Łódź. From 1987 to 2011, he worked as a professor at the Faculty of Philology of the University of Łódź. Author of several novels, translator of about 80 books from English. Contributor to Odra, Literatura na Świecie and other literary magazines. Member of the Polish Writers’ Association and the Polish Film Academy, honorary member of the Association of Literary Translators. Juror of the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award (2014). Juror of the Julian Tuwim Literary Award, chairman of the Award in 2018-2020. Laureate of several literary awards, twice nominated for the Gdynia Literary Award in the Translation category (2019, 2022). In 2021, his translation of James Joyce’s Ulysses was published by Officyna publishing house, along with a collection of commentaries on the book(Łódź Ulissesa), for which he received the City of Łódź Award (2022) and the Bernard O'Connor Award (2022).
