Óscar Martínez

Salvador journalist and reporter. He specialises in issues of violence, drug cartels and organised crime in Latin America. Winner of many prizes and awards, e.g., the National Journalism Prize in Mexico and the Human Rights Award of University of Central America in Salvador. In 2019, the Polish translation of his reportage book The Beast: Riding the Rails and Dodging Narcos on the Migrant Trail [Bestia. O ludziach, którzy nikogo nie obchodzą] came out and was shortlisted for the Ryszard Kapuściński Award. It tells a story of dramatic struggles of immigrants from Central America trying to get into the USA. In 2021, his successive book (co-written with his brother Juan José Martínez) The Hollywood Kid was published in Poland (under the title: Młody z Hollywood. Skąd wziął się najokrutniejszy gang świata Mara Salvatrucha 13).
