Sława Lisiecka

(born 1947) – translator of German literature. She has translated the prose of Thomas Bernhard, Herman Hesse, Uwe Johnson, Joseph Roth, Friedrich Nietzsche and many others. She has won many translation awards, including the prestigious Literatura na Świecie Award for the translation of Uwe Johnson’s Mutmassungen über Jakob (Speculations about Jakob), and the Kunststiftung Nordrhein-Westfalen Foundation award for lifetime achievement in translation, with particular emphasis on translating Thomas Bernhard’s works. In 2018, she received the Gdynia Literary Award for Thomas Bernhard’s Gehen. Amras. Since 2011, she has run the Od Do publishing house, which publishes low-circulation books.
