Community as a Challenge. Meeting with Roberto Esposito

Roberto Esposito has been working on the issue of community for years. In his philosophical works, he argues that community is not something that arises spontaneously and is unequivocally positive. On the contrary, it always presents us with a challenge that we often fail to meet. This does not mean, however, that we can live and function entirely outside of a community. Each of the extremes – be it the total immersion of the individual in a group or complete independence from others – has destructive consequences. We will talk with Esposito about the relationship between a community and an individual, its benefits and its dangers, about past and present political communities, as well as the complex sources and nature of current social and military conflicts.
