Usually, we understand by the concept of community the relationships that exist between people who are linked by certain bonds. But what about other beings, which share and – very importantly – co-create with us the surrounding reality? There is a long list of convincing evidence that other beings – Eva Meijer calls them non-human animals – have a profound influence on the worlds that we inhabit. If we understand the category of community in a democratic way, then we must include these other beings in it too. With Eva Meijer we will talk about interspecies democracy, the ways animals communicate and their rights, as well as the role of literature in building bridges between human and nonhuman animals.
