A conversation with Sofi Oksanen

According to Sofi Oksanen, literature can spark empathy deep within our souls, but it can also encourage us to advocate for those, who did not have a voice yet, and who have not been able to tell their stories. A novel or short story allows us to see reality from someone else's point of view and gives us access to realms that were shrouded in mystery until now. During the meeting, we will talk with Sofi Oksanen about women whom she considers important, and who have been consistently marginalised for cultural and social reasons – not only in totalitarian regimes, but also in some Western democracies. We will also talk about Finnish literature and its links to major historical events of the 20th century that served as the backdrop of today's conflicts in Eastern Europe.
