The Tehran-born writer living in France will talk with us about the long and complicated process of becoming part of a new culture, as well as reclaiming one’s native culture – after leaving Iran, Maryam Madjidi severed her ties to her home culture for years. Is it possible to live between two languages without choosing either one as the main one? What are the issues faced by a writer who wants to tell the story of her family from a different place in a new language? How can one liberate themselves from what seems most important to distance themselves in order to craft a story? Can one be born again? Are we able to create a new form of life, based on the feeling of completeness, rather than a lack of something?
